As far as the food which is available in the Dominican Republic travel goes there has been much a milieu which is available but with the initially communities which are there have been the Taino, then came in the Spanish and the French.
So if you venture into a Dominican republic for food you will find all sorts of food but the fact is that with the republic becoming a well known place for the tourists as well as for the Dominican Republic destination wedding the food that is served as become more of the food which is there at all touristy places like the pizza and French fries.
If you need more traditional food then you either need to head more into the country side and leave the famous city of Santo Domingo behind.
Dominican Republic being Caribbean island the food has that typical Caribbean touch to it. The main difference lies in the fact that the food that is there in the Caribbean DR is not that spicy.
Here is a list of a few main dishes and what they mean.
The main sauce that is used is known as the Guisado. Think of this as a curry that we can use in making so many dishes.
Guisado has garlic, onions, cilantro, and oregano and in some cases olives. In fact this sauce is used in so many of the dishes that are prepared with chicken, beef or fish.
For the breakfast they ahs something called as “mangu” which is nothing but mashed plantain with milk and butter.
The main food item which is very popular is the Bandera Dominica and that has rice, vegetables, beans, fired plaintains and meat.
Another interesting dish is the Sancocho but is mainly for us looks like a stew.
These foods that I mentioned above in the Dominican republic will have the Caribbean flavors and if you need to have more than that then you need to try the pure authentic Tainos dishes.
Here are some of the Tainos dishes.
Yuca
Casabe – bread
Catibias – Flour fritters stuffed with meat
Dulce de leche – mil candy and a dessert
Majarete – corn pudding

Dominican republic travel
I know I have been missing here for months now but then I think posting here is a hobby so I will be posting more as and when I travel.
I have been wanting to go the DR or the Dominican Republic for travel but have this thing off because of recession if nothing else. I do not want to spend the money unnecessarily and save the money in case I get laid off. Yes it is a possibility.
But the as they Opportunity knock and my opportunity to see the great Caribbean island of Dominican republic was there when my wife’s sisters son said that he was planning to get us all together in Dominican republic for his wedding.
I am delighted and I am helping him out in his quest for the good Dominican republic wedding planners as well as details about what are the wedding traditions as well as what are the wedding requirements for having a destination wedding in Dominican republic.
As far as the wedding goes I have a few website which are good in terms of information and these are
Island Brides
Dominican Republic Travel Guide
Reading the first one I was amazed that how many people in this country actually go out and have these wedding which are so called the destination wedding.
That left me wondering as to where was all this information when we were getting married a few decades back.
No time to rue but I am sure that I will plan my 25th wedding anniversary at a wedding location which is going to outside the country like Mexico or the Caribbean Islands.
Note: I will give you more information on the trip once I book my tickets and have started the whole planning process.
I am a foodie and hence my next post will reveal the zeal with I have gathered a few things that are necessary for a person to enjoy the DR food.
Next post soon about the Dominican Republic food as I need to rush for my meeting ;-)
